I too have read the installation references and found they don't help if you're just starting out. "Replace the core files".  Core files of what aspect of Joomla? Itself, modules, administration? I'd say it was just my own ignorance except there are enough questions related to installation that I know I'm not alone. Some modules (in general) we use the install function on Joomla, others we FTP, some we have to unzip the unzip etc. It's all very confusing. It's not that it doesn't get resolved sooner or later, it's just that it's almost always later.

So specifically for SEF and to understand this from someone new to Joomla. Install what files to what part of Joomla, replacing what files specifically as they are found via the FTP?

The patch is based on the fact that some 'core' files of the Joomla installation should be replaced. Meaning when you have installed Joomla you should unzip the patch and upload the file to your server... This should do the job.

Don't forget to backup the same files/folders, from your root, that you are replacing just in case you need to revert back.
