Problem with uninstall

Hi,

I installed JRE Cache (it says version 3.0b in my J1.5.7 site, local development at the moment).  I tried to uninstall it and it broke the development (index.php was blank so it did not restore the original).  How am I meant to uninstall it, using the Joomla uninstaller?

Luckily I had a dev site which was almost the same, so I backed this up an tried to uninstall it on the dev site.  Uninstalling broke this too (I just get a blank page):

I have a local version with the Cache installed but not turned on.  I'm too scared to try to uninstall it - I don't know how to do this... 

Any advice please?

Hmmm, normally the orginal index.php should be restored. For J1.5.7 you don't need to uninstall it since the index.php file is not altered...

If you want to uninstall it uninstall the component and keep an orginal index.php file present for loading up with FTP if things goes wrong..

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've just tried it on a completely fresh install of J1.5.7 on a WAMP Server.

Did an install, then an uninstall (with the JRE built-in uninstaller) and the same problem... the 'white screen of death'!

index.php is completely blank as is the index.php in the administrator directory.

Any further thoughts?  So really, rather than uninstall it, I should just turn it off?

Turning of will disable the function of the  cache if that is what you want. ...

I will check this out (again) tomorrow. Which Cache version do you have? The old 2.0 version had these problems. If you install it on your xampp environment can you check the /administrator/components/com_jrecache/backup directory. Here the orginal index.php must be stored.

Hi again.

I'm not going to turn it off as such, but I realised that it automatically found the path on a live server, so I decided not to install the component on the local development, but wait until it was on the actual site!  So, rather than turn it off, I decided to temporarily uninstall it.

It is the latest version.. I downloaded it again yesterday just to check!

I'll reinstall the 1.5.7 sandbox and check that directory as you suggested!
