Turn on Gzip in Joomla or Cache Accelerate?

Is it better to turn on gzip in Joomla (site -> global configuration ->server) or Cache Accelerate or both?
Using Joomla 1.5.x

Does one setting override the other?


One of my goals for this year is to make my sites faster and trying to learn as much as I can.

This settings overrrules the Joomla gzip compression. You can disable the Joomla global config and set this to on.

My current settings
Joomla gzip (off)
Cache Accelerate:
Enable compressed cache storage: No (server space is not really an issue)
Use GZIP output page compression: Yes

Does this seem like the best set up?
Any down side to turning  both on? or is it cleaner to only have the cache accelerate turned on?


On this page I have a couple of files that are not being gzipped according to yslow

How do I get these files to be gzipped?

After trying some other stuff out I think the different Gzip settings became clear.

If Cache Accelerate is installed then it does not matter what the Joomla gzip setting is b/c it will be overridden by the Cache Accelerate setting.

Will Cache Accelerate also override the CssJssCompression plugin setting for Gzip?

Is the Cache Accelerate gzip better than the Joomla Gzip? or is all Gzip the same and it is either on or off.

The gzip is the same.... So it doesn´t matter which you are using.
