Hi,

I get the following error message popping up at the top of the page and I can't figure out how to get rid of it:

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/SELPGSEF/plugins/system/sefpatch.php  on line 171

Today is the first time I haven seen this error which was when I moved the site (it's still on localhost) to another machine. I am not sure if this is being caused by the machine I am moving to having php 5.3 as my other machine is using php 5.2.

Is there a fix for this as I have tried turning error reporting off but it still pops up.

Regards,
George

Hi,

I looked into it some more and I happened to notice that the problem goes away when I disable Joomlaatwork SEF Patch and when I went to one of the internal pages I got the following error message which leads me to believe that there is some sort of conflict between Joomsef and the Joomlatwork SEF Patch:

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/SELPGSEF/plugins/system/sefpatch.php  on line 171

Error: headers already sent in sefpatch.php on line 171.
Stopped at line 1182 in joomsef.php

The strange thing is that these to where working together on my other machine no problems so I don't know why this is happening on another server.

I disabled meta tags for Joomsef so I don't know why this is occuring.

The problem appears to be localized to xampp on my power pc because I tested it on localhost with xampp on windows and on a unix server and it works fine. I am using the latest copy of xampp on my power pc but i still get this error.
