Changing Page Title on Front Page
«
on:

This is a strange one...
I have two sites using almost identical setups (joomla, same components etc.) and templates.
Site 1 is configured with a global meta title set in the joomla config
I then use JRESEF to overwrite page title for front page - the global title is then used for components with no page title set, until I get the Meta Injection utility working - which should allow me to injection meta data and titles into any component etc.
Site 2 has the same setup, however when the site is first accessed I receive the page title I want (the one set in the component/menu link), when I refresh or click the "Home" link I then get the global page title. If I leave it for 30 mins - the same thing happens again, day after day.
Have cleaned all caches etc and problem is consistent - anybody come across this one before ?

yes, sounds strange... The setups are identical you say? Can I check this by myself? Can you email the site name / domain? regards.

Hmmm,
Thanks again Richard - sods law - every time I post I make some progress, must have been a cache issue as they are now consistently the same.
So, the Joomla global page title is the first and only served for the front/home page. JRESEF does not seem to be overwriting the page title I set in the Parameters for the Menu item "Home" - assigned to the component FrontPage - in this case. All other pages OK except Virtuemart and Joomap (which I hope the URL meta/title injection will solve for me).
Any ideas how I get this first bit working OK ?
Any thoughts on the URL meta/title injection?
i am happy to provide back end access if needed.

At the param section of the menu -> frontpage are the additional fields listed? For example HTML title, robots, META tags? If you change the META tag keywords or author is this listed correctly?
Yes, would like to see it (backend).

Yes, all the additional fields are listed and I have entered in a HTML title which is the one not being displayed.
OK, will PM you with log in details.

Whow this was strange and searching for the needle but found the needle!
Problem was that the Joomla cache was enabled (normally this should be working). Joomla retrieved the content from the cache although the page was updated the cache was not updated at all. Looking at your cache environment the cached pages are 644 so I think that he could not updated the cache.
I've disabled the cache and it's working!

Well done and thankyou for taking the time to sort this one out.
I did do that myself, but believe it or not I was also having problems with the cache on my LAN's server which was adding to the problem. I disabled it, but never both together.
Would your chaching solution work?
Any update on the META injection problem as I would like to get those other components with no page title and meta data sorted.

Nic

Yes, the cache engine will boost the performance of your site. But if the page is generated with the wrong title then this is cached also (lets see if the problem will occur again, I'am pressing a lot of times on the F5 button).
About the META injection: Can you please give me an URL which it should be injected.

Richard

the problem is I don't seem to be able to link to any of the URL's
if i use the Joomla internal or the OpenSEF link I get an error message fetching the data
SEO repository: Edit - Error retrieving the file: FILE NOT FOUND!, response code not 200 ok
so for virtuemart i used
internal link = /index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26
OpenSEF link = /buy-tool-holders-online
i guess i am doing something wrong here...any ideas ?
if your cache solution works I will buy

Check the URL repository. Set the URL on publish and it will work.
Problem with fetching the URL is that you have directive -> allow_url_fopen within your php.ini on off, this doesn't allow to retrieve the page...I will put this on my to do list to catch the errors because this is confusing (the URL exists but actual it's another error that should be displayed).
About the Cache. Yes it will work only looking at your site is that you are showing the shop basket right on the top (Cart Contents). This will not work. The way we have solved it is to make a link to the shopping basket and to excluded the shopping basket URL from the cache (see
www.joomlatwork.com
). The shopping basket may not be cached because this is an individual page.

Oh I see...thanks for letting me know.
So with the cache installed the shop basket will not work as I have it (annoying) ?
Is this a Joomla, Virtuemart or cache limitation ?
OK, I could work around this - Will there be a fix ?
