I will look into this next week for the extended patch, not the free patch.

The past 3/4 weeks I've been working on the opensef component (embedded a cache functionality) and been working for the 1.5 Joomla release to make the SEF patch default in 1.5 (YES 1.5 will be including the basic free SEF patch functionality).
And yes I've included this feature within the 1.5 release with the request that the page title will be transefered into page header (more logic) and there is a new parameter page title. The page header will be showed then into a <h1> tag.

I've sent the code for this last week to Johan Janssens from Joomla who will embed this into the core of 1.5

Regards,

Richard

Its cool that you are putting effort into 1.5, but is it possible to transfer that title patch into the current 1.0.11 release?  1.5 is still beta and it will still take some time before we can use it as a production platform.  At the moment, I believe everyone is still using 1.0.x.  It would be really cool to see the SEF extended patch include the custom title fields.

I agree. I'm anxiously awaiting this. 1.5 isn't in use much, unless you're into beta testing your production Web sites! And it's got a ways to go until we'll be using it.

So, when can we expect this monster to be released?

I hate to mention this... but since we're not getting any response about custom title tags (probably the most basic SEO requirement) I'm gonna.

Check out this thread on Joomla.org http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?topic=36681.60 there's a mention on page 3 of another component that handles meta content well. JPromoter is its name.

I'm going to try it this weekend.

cheers

Good luck, but notice that  jpromoter is not the same as the sef patch extended version. Currently (no joke) I'am working to finish this feature.

Sent you an email with the SEF patch extended component with the extra HTML title field. Let me now if this works for you so I can make this public.

Thx.

I haven't had a chance to play with it yet - it's been a busy weekend. I'm just getting caught up now - Sunday night - and will be able to give you the low-down on Monday afternoon. I've got my fingers crossed!

I installed the new version just now and it's working fine. Couple hiccups - SEF threw me an error because I don't use (and have removed) the weblinks and newsfeeds components in Joomla. SEF wanted them to be there and made me create dummy files in order to install successfully. No big deal but wasn't smooth.

The component is working well - love the custom title tags for meta data! You can now make any title tag you want - completely separate from the content title itself - which is a boon for Joomla's SEO functionality.

Still, it's a bummer that you can't control the meta data of categories or sections. Categories are especially troubling for me because unless someone uses my menu links to go to category "A", the meta data will not display. This is a huge liability for Joomla - not the responsibility of SEF component. But when someone makes a workaround for this the whole world will rejoice!  Cheesy

Thanks guys -

Wait till the next release: here you can assign META information to just any Joomla URL (also to components.)

That sounds perfect Richard. I'm looking forward to it - thanks for your great work.

If this is in the next version for 1.0.12, I'll buy this.
