I like what you guys have so far. Being able to have meaningful page titles is great. I think in addition to what is available now it would be nice to have section and category tags available for the page title. So if I had a section named “software” with a category “databases” containing articles “MySQL”, “DB2”, “ORACLE” and “PostgreSQL” (path repeated in short form for clarity: software>databases>MySQL)
then my page titles could be configured like this:
[TITLE] : [CATEGORY] : [SECTION]
and would appear like this:
MySQL : databases : software
DB2 : databases : software
ORACLE : databases : software
PostgreSQL: databases : software

Sounds reasonable. Although I would recommand the use the alias of the category and section.
(Please not that this will only apply to the content items)
I will look into this tonight, what I don't like is to add extra SQL queries (since Joomla is SQL intensive already). I don't know if these are variables that I can use. But from functional point of view this should be possbile.
Good suggestion!
Regards.
Richard

I don't like adding more sql queries either. I thought you would be able to grab them from somewhere else since they have to be fetched from the database at least once. It will be interesting if you find a elegant solution to the problem. Thank you for looking in to it.

Good news, I'am almost finished and it can be set for the content title fields only. You can then apply the following extra information within the title of a component: category name category title section name section title title alias.
I will sent you an email when I'am finished.
Note: this functionality will be included within the sef Extended version. Customers who have already have downloaded the component can reinstall the component (instructions will be included).
Regards.
Richard

That sounds great! I can't wait to check it out. Did you have to put it another sql query or were you able to grab it from previously fetched queries stored in a previously used variable? Just curious. Thanks for working on this so quickly. I am impressed.

That's correct, I've removed this functionality since this was not request that much and resulted into extra SQL queries.... (performance issue)

Is added. You can download the component from our website through the login option.
Please notice the following: Robots settings is fixed for the default setting. Other changes have been made in regards of the URL Sef repository (CURL + proxy support) and additional functionality for the title field for content items. You can now add the following fields into the title field for content items titles, this can be set within the title configuration in the configuration part of the SEF component: [TITLE_ALIAS] --> will show the title alias [CAT_NAME] --> will show the category name [CAT_TITLE] --> will show the category title [SEC_NAME] --> will show the section name [SEC_TITLE] --> will show the section title
To upgrade:
- You must deinstall the current component,
** If you want to save the URL repository files you should backup the SQL table since this will be deleted with a deinstall. After you have install the component you can restore the backup ** Write down your custom fields, after reinstallation you should define these fields again.
- Reinstall the component. If you have installed the cache component please goto the cache component cpanel and choice to reinstall the Cache files after you have installed the SEF patch component.
NOTE: the content settings / META tags assigned to the joomla items will be saved and will not be losed at reinstallation
Good luck!
Richard
